About Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (KKSU)

Maharashtra State had no Sanskrit University before 1997. The former Prime Minister of India, Hon’ble Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao, who is a great scholar of Sanskrit, always insisted that Maharashtra has a great tradition of Sanskrit learning hence it should have an independent University.

UGC, AIU & NAAC Accredited State Government University formed by the Government of Maharashtra.
The initiative of Hon’ble Shri. P.V. Narasimha Rao and the strong motivation of Late. Shri. Sudhakarrao Naik and the tireless efforts of Dr. Shrikant Jichkar in creating a non-formal model and well-studied act for the University have helped the smooth establishment and take-off of this University.

Established on September 18, 1997, the university is named in tribute to the legendary Sanskrit poet, Mahakavi Kalidas. While dedicated to the preservation and advanced learning of Sanskrit, KKSU is unique in its innovative academic approach that blends ancient wisdom with modern requirements.

Academic Philosophy: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

KKSU offers a wide range of degrees, including Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), and Ph.D. programs. The university’s curriculum is distinctively designed to provide a “double gain” for students by integrating Sanskrit with contemporary professional fields.

  • Traditional Knowledge: The university caters to traditional domains such as Veda, Vedanta, Vyakarana, Nyaya, Mimamsa, Dharmashastra, and Sahitya.
  • Modern Integration: Sanskrit is taught as a compulsory subject alongside modern
    disciplines like Travel & Tourism, Hospitality Studies, Journalism, Yoga, and
    Foreign Languages.

  • Civil Services Focus: To assist career-focused students, the university has structured a Civil Services Degree Course (aligned with I.A.S. and M.P.S.C. curriculums) with Sanskrit as a key subject.
